Chess Vocabulary: BYE

A BYE is what you get when you can't play a round of chess but are still continuing to play in the tournament. It can be a zero point, or 1/2-point BYE based on when you claim this BYE and what round it's in. In some situations, such as cases where you want to play but there is no opponent due to an odd number of players in that section/tournament, it can also be a 1-point BYE.
