Chess Vocabulary: Knockout Tournament, Swiss Tournament, and Round Robin Tournament

Knockout Tournament: A tournament played in multiple rounds, where the players are paired up to play against each other and the winner of each game advances to the next round. This repeats until only one player is left - the winner.



Swiss Tournament: A tournament where no players are eliminated. Every player will play every round and the player with the highest number of points at the end of the tournament is the winner.


Round-Robin Tournament: This is a Swiss tournament where you play every other player.
