Our employee of the month is Michael Darmon from Texas!

Michael communicates exceptionally well and always takes initiative on the tasks we ask of him. He is a role model for our teachers, and we truly appreciate everything he does for us.

1. Who are you, where do you come from, where are you going? 

I’m Michael, I’m from Texas, and I’m going forward!

 

2. How long have you been teaching with Chess Wizards?

A little over a year.

 

3. What is the most valuable lesson you’ve learned since you started teaching? 

Patience is a virtue.

 

4. What is the most exciting experience you have had while playing or teaching chess? 

When a student is able to get a win against me!

 

5.  How do you motivate your students to succeed? 

Friendly competition and the drive to be the best.

                                                                                                                                                                    

6.  If you could retire tomorrow and never have to worry about money again, what would you do with your time? 

Whatever I wanted!

 

7.  What’s your go-to technique for dealing with ‘handful students’? 

I sincerely ask them their thought process and either I learn something or they learn that they’re being quite silly.

                                                                                                                   

8. What is an unusual place you have been to? 

Oklahoma

 

9. Do you have a talent that not many people know about? 

I’m a pretty good singer.

 

10. What’s your #1 teaching tip?  

Be consistent but fair - and gentle but firm!

 

11. What is something interesting that you’re involved in, outside of Chess Wizards? 

Chess Wizards is taking up the majority of my time right now if I’m being honest.                                                                           

                                                                                                                          

12.  If you saw a kangaroo and a chimpanzee playing chess what would you do? Who do you think would win? 

Whoever got them to do that.

 

13.  Star Wars, Star Trek, or they’re both lame? 

They’re both great!

                                         

14. What do you like most about working with Chess Wizards? 

The Chess!
